Role of Carbon sink
Delivering High quality Carbon credits from reforestation projects
We develop local community driven reforestation projects that act as carbon sink enabling local communities thrive for a better future. We do this inline with REDD+ established by UN Sustainable goals and following core principles set by ICVCM and Carbon Direct. REDD’ stands for ‘Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries and ICVCM stands for the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market . Carbon sinks play an important role by removing carbon from the atmosphere through its natural process of absorbing more carbon through trees and soil than it releases.
Client Earth estimates that the world's forest absorbs around 2.6bn tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere every year. Yet despite their vital importance, an area the size of a football pitch is destroyed every second.
We are here to prove that carbon credits if done rightly can be one of the mechanism to reduce carbon emissions and is not greenwashing. We do this by making sure all our projects mitigate both system level and credit level risk associated with greenwashing claims.
We at Carbon Sink do this by developing leading standards and best practices across different regulatory bodies when it comes to developing reforestation projects that delivers high quality carbon credits. We do this by carefully choosing degraded land caused by human impact in South of India and regenerate the land through proven agricultural techniques and support local community with jobs, clean drinking water and access to energy.
Our goal at Carbon Sink is to not just reforest degraded land but work with the local community to improve their standards of living and leave behind a sustainable future for them. We do this by making sure profits generated from the sale of carbon credits is re-invested into the communities who protect and play a role in maintaining these forests.
All our reforested land will be powered by renewable energy utilising the power of Sun and any additional electricity generated outside the need of our forests will be exported for free to the local community in support to replace wood burn stoves with electric stoves and to power schools and households with reliable and secure electricity.
